This gorgeous member of the Big Bang™ series may be smaller than its friends, but it lives up to its big name by exploding with color from early summer through early fall. Just 12 to 15 inches high and wide, this compact, well-branched plant is only about half the height of ‘Redshift’ and ‘Full Moon,’ but that doesn’t stop it from supplying loads of 1½- to 2-inch sun-yellow blossoms, each with a prominent burgundy eye and a gold button center.
The burgundy banding fades as it reaches the outer edges of the bloom, adding lovely dimension to each petal. And even the foliage gets in on the show, boasting a unique texture somewhere between the threadleaf and grandiflora types and staying attractive all season.
‘Cosmic Eye’ is an excellent choice for beds, borders, and containers. It’s a member of the Big Bang™ series, the result of 10 years of breeding that involved up to 8 different Coreopsis species, resulting in truly cold-hardy plants, with a sturdy, well-branched habit and large flowers that appear in a wide range of colors and patterns. Zones 5-9.
