About Pinus sylvestris French Dark Green: An irregular pyramid when young. Becoming picturesque and open with wide spreading branches exposing its beautiful orange bark. Needles are in clusters of two, twisted and bluish-green. Scotch Pine has a medium growth rate in full sun and most any soil. Often grown as a Christmas tree, its true character comes out with age. We grow the French Dark Green strain. This strain has a moderate growth rate for evenly spaced whorls and shorter blue-green needles. Seed source: Gevaudan, France. Grows to 30 to 60 feet tall and 30 to 40 feet wide. Zones 3 to 7.
