Noteworthy Characteristics: A dense, upright broadleaf evergreen shrub slowly growing to a height of 6 to 8 feet. Spread 6 to 7 feet, giving an overall rounded appearance. Excellent dark green, glossy foliage with purplish red new stems. Blooming occurs over a two week period in late May early June, starting with vivid red buds that gradually enlarge until they burst open revealing a rich pink interior. Appreciates cool moist, well drained, acidic soil, such as in a woodland garden setting. Native to the eastern United States. Plant in deep shade to full sun. For best flowering half day of sun is required, but can tolerate full sun if not in a hot location. Deer resistant. Best suited in an informal border, specimen and spectacular in mass planting. Zone: 4-9, Height: 6-8 Feet, Spread: 6-7 Feet.
